Getting started with Loomfield
Loomfield is your personal AI workspace that runs on your own computer, a Mac or a Windows PC. Setup takes about 10 minutes.
Steps that differ are marked Mac or Windows. Jump to the Mac steps or the Windows steps.
What you need
- Mac: a Mac with Apple Silicon (M1 or newer).
- Windows: Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit.
- A Claude Pro or Max subscription (or a ChatGPT plan with Codex).
Loomfield uses your own login. It never asks for an API key.
1. Download and install
On a Mac
- On your account page, click Download Loomfield for Mac.
- Open the downloaded file.
- Drag Loomfield into your Applications folder.
Open it the first time
This early version isn't signed by Apple yet, so macOS will say it can't verify the developer. That's expected, and it's easy to get past:
- Open System Settings, then Privacy & Security.
- Scroll down to the message about Loomfield.
- Click Open Anyway, then confirm.
The first start takes a few minutes while Loomfield sets up your private Weave. That's normal.
On Windows
- On your account page, click Download Loomfield for Windows.
- Open the downloaded
Loomfield_…_x64-setup.exefile. - Follow the installer. It installs just for you, so you don't need administrator rights.
Open it the first time
This early version isn't code-signed yet, so Windows SmartScreen may show Windows protected your PC. That's expected:
- Click More info.
- Click Run anyway.
The first start takes a few minutes while Loomfield sets up your private Weave. That's normal.
2. Sign in
Sign in inside the app with the same email and password you use on this site. If you're offline, Loomfield keeps working for a day.
3. Connect Claude (or Codex)
Loomfield shows a Get set up screen that checks what's installed. Follow its steps:
- Install Claude Code. On a Mac, open Terminal and run
curl -fsSL https://claude.ai/install.sh | bash. On Windows, open PowerShell and runirm https://claude.ai/install.ps1 | iex. - Open a new Terminal (Mac) or PowerShell (Windows) window, run
claude, and sign in with your Claude account. - Come back to Loomfield. The screen re-checks by itself.
Windows says claude isn't recognized? The installer puts Claude in a folder Windows doesn't search yet. In PowerShell, run this once, then close and reopen PowerShell:
[Environment]::SetEnvironmentVariable("Path", [Environment]::GetEnvironmentVariable("Path","User") + ";$env:USERPROFILE\.local\bin", "User")
Loomfield finds Claude in that folder either way; this is just so you can run claude to sign in.
4. Your first session
Click New session, pick Claude, and ask for something real, like "Help me plan my week" or "Summarize this document".
What you and your sessions create is saved in your Weave on your computer.
5. Meet your first agent
Agents are helpers that run on their own. Loomfield comes with a Weekly Review agent already scheduled for Monday mornings.
- Open the dashboard's Getting started checklist (or the Schedule page).
- Click Run now to see what it does.
When you're ready, the Agents page lets you build your own.
Staying up to date
Loomfield checks for updates by itself. When one is ready you'll see Update available with what changed, and one click installs it. What's new at the bottom of the sidebar lists every release.
Your data
Everything stays on your computer. Your Weave lives in your home folder, and nothing from your Weave is uploaded to Loomfield.
Need help?
In the app, go to Settings, then Help, then Copy diagnostics. Send it along with a sentence about what you were doing. Diagnostics remove tokens, emails and file paths.
